Mars is an out of this world sweet dog with lots of experience being a good boy, as evidenced by his sugar dusted face. He just loves people and getting attention, most especially head scratches. His foster mom says, “He gets so excited to see someone even if all they did was walk into the other room and come back”.

His foster mom says that he does not play with toys too often, but does enjoy tearing apart stuffed toys and will chase a ball as many times as you are willing to throw it- as long as he can see where it lands. He has learned to play tug-of-war with rope toys or the fabric of a once-stuffed toy. His favorite things in life are really people and attention.

Mars will eat nearly any treat he is offered and does a good job of taking the treat gently. He will sometimes wait to eat his breakfast or dinner because he prefers to eat with people around.

Mars is smart and his foster mom says training is going well. He is house trained and communicates that he needs to go out by whining at the back door.

He enjoys walks and does pretty well on leash, but he is polishing his leash manners to perfection for his forever family with his foster mom.

He can be a little nervous on laminate floors because his paws slip on it. His preference is always carpeted flooring. Mars is also wary of the stairs, but he does not have trouble going up or down the stairs.

Mars is heartworm positive, and he is currently undergoing treatment. As a result of this condition, his heart rate cannot get too high, which means extra care must be taken during exercise and training.   He is not able to be neutered until he is heartworm free, and he must be neutered before his adoption is finalized.   However, you can still make him a part of your family! His adoption would be done under a "foster to adopt" contract. A foster to adopt contract makes it possible for Mars to go to his forever home while enabling  The Furever Project to cover all remaining heartworm treatment costs until negative results are obtained.

Mars came to the Furever Project from the Caroline Shelter, pulled the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. Please help us give this very deserving gentleman a happily ever after!

If Mars sounds like the right match for your family, apply to adopt him today! If you’ve fallen in love with his sweet, sugared face but cannot adopt him, please consider sharing his information on social media to help him find his forever home, and or donating towards his care as he waits for his forever family.
